is responsible for directing and monitoring all clinical programs.
Reviews, schedules, and makes recommendations to the Hospital
Administrator for changes, additions, etc. The Medical Executive
Director assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, linking,
monitoring, and advocating for each person served assigned to the
clinicians with specific departments. Develops and conducts
programs to provide education for conditions and problems relating
to drug and alcohol abuse. Participates in interdisciplinary
treatment planning conferences. Responsible for the comprehensive
delivery of quality mental health care specific to hospital
protocols.QualificationsEducation:
- Valid license to practice medicine or a limited permit and a
license from another state or CanadaExperience:
- Seven (7) years professional experience providing services to
persons with psychiatric disabilities, with two (2) years of which
must have been at the administrative clinical level, assistant
director or its equivalent
- Five (5) to seven (7) years must have been within a forensic
setting
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and
technical concepts and applications, financial reports, and legal
documents
- Ability to respond to a variety of inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Must be able to communicate with employees at all levels of the
organization
- Must be able to act as a competent liaison between the
organization and the community
- Must be able to write complex reports, speeches, and other
communication materials that conform to prescribed style and format
and are understandable to diverse audiences
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts and applications
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as
frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and
validity, analysis
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and
draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several
abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software
typically used by the departmentLicenses/Certifications:
- Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and
NeurologyResponsibilities
- Monitors clinical staff for compliance with professional
standards of mental health care.
- Performs chart reviews for quality improvement purposes.
- Performs Peer Reviews on all Physicians and Nurse Practitioners
in accordance with Hospital policies.
- Supervises the Clinical staff in facilitating mental health
care at the facility.
- Performs psychiatric examinations on persons served referred by
nursing/professional staff under guidelines established.
- Provides psychiatric treatment and orders studies, tests and
ancillary services required consistent with the provision of mental
health care services.
- Documents all care encounters with persons served in the
medical record.
- Reviews/reevaluates weekly those cases requiring ongoing
psychiatric/pharmaceutical intervention.
- Provides 24 hours on-call coverage to advise hospital staff in
the care of persons served.
- Oversees all special treatment procedures, including seclusion
and restraint, suicide and assault precautions.
- Oversees and monitors use of medication use in the
facility.
- Duties include the development and implementation of clinical
policy and procedures, assesses clinical staff competence and
monitors compliance with all applicable standards including
company, state, local and all licensing bodies.
- Supervises the development of and application of policies,
procedures and protocols in the care of Patients.
- Meets with the Hospital Administrator at least weekly, or more
often as needed for purposes of clinical program evaluation and
planning.
- Designates level of care to be performed in the facility and
the equipment needed to perform this level of care.
- Represents the Medical Staff on Hospital Committees.
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a
variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow
standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
- Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of
instructions and apply knowledge to different factual
situations.
- Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to
details.
- Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous
basis.
