Job Description:

The YMCA of South Florida's is now hiring a Healthy Living Director. The Healthy Living Director is responsible for the growth and success of all healthy living programs and services of the YMCA assigned, with a specific emphasis in generating revenue from personal training, small group training, wellness programs, active older adults and other revenue producing activities as assigned. All revenue producing activities and programs not listed herein, require approval from senior management.The Healthy Living Director is a leader, a mentor, a teacher, and supervisor to all staff in the healthy living arena. This person is responsible for upholding service and engagement best practices by developing their teams while aggressively expanding the Y's impact through revenue generating programs.In addition, the Healthy Living Director will be responsible for auditing, training, and evaluating staff as well as ensuring that all safety and risk management procedures are followed. The primary measures for success for the Healthy Living Director is the growth in revenue and participant retention for all healthy living programs (i.e., personal training, small group training, performance training, and other specialized programs) at the assigned YMCA. Secondary measures of success include directing the department towards specific member satisfaction and a reduction in monthly terminations.Essential Functions:

  • Ensures revenue expectations and budgeted bottom line for Healthy Living Departments are met.
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and exceeding department(s) budget.
  • Supervises Group EX Coordinator, Healthy Living Specialists and Personal Trainers, including hiring, developing, coaching, evaluating, managing performance, etc. along with coordinating schedules shifts, classes, and personal training appointments and healthy living orientations.
  • Completes healthy living orientations as necessary.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty for the branch at peak times of operation (nights/weekends) and provides leadership with specific schedule.
  • Meets all assigned program enrollment, retention and quality benchmarks by marketing and promoting the personal and small group training programs.
  • Supervises the new member orientation process, ensuring members are connected at point of sale and remain well-engaged during the program.
  • Develops and implement innovative, high quality, member-focused programs to serve the needs of the local membership base.
  • Actively serves on the Association Healthy Living Team, helping to share and create best practices throughout the YMCA of South Florida.
  • Works with Family Center Leadership Team to address any member concerns and ensure high scores on member satisfaction surveys and/ or secret shop reports.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the community.
  • Inspects equipment regularly and ensure that fitness area and equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately in accordance the YMCA of South Florida standards.
  • Ensures that the wellness floor, personal and small group training programs follow the program standards, policies, and guidelines of the YMCA of South Florida, as well as state and local codes.
  • Immediately reports to the Associate Exec. for Healthy Living or Executive Director any injuries. Complete appropriate documentation and send documentation to association office within 24 hours.

  • Develops Association practices to retain and grow healthcare partnerships and corporate wellness programs.
  • Shares responsibility for adherence to and development of the department budget, in consultation with the Assoc. Exec. Of Healthy Living/ or the COO.
  • Shares responsibility for the retention and growth of programs and initiatives.
  • Assists in monitoring safety in all areas and required to work floor hours on the wellness floor.
  • Provides direct leadership to specific programs (areas) as assigned.
  • Assists with Annual Campaign, along with other campaigns, and initiatives as needed.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and holds accountable key wellness staff as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Educates members and staff about the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Provides leadership, resources, and tools to subordinate staff to develop, and encourage an environment of creativity, quality service and positive, supportive interaction.
  • Assigns clear accountability and ensures continuous improvement to staff.
  • Coordinates with healthy living staff and personal trainers to engage in required events, challenges and/or coordinating special events or activities, as determined by the Association.
  • Responsible for the preparation of personal trainer reviews and training trackers and other required documentation of performance.
  • Provides membership service, which includes professional correspondence, phone calls, enrolling members into training and programs, assisting in tours when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with staff and community.
  • Other duties and requirements as assigned.Job Requirements:
    • Bachelors' of Science degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Human Services, Recreation, Business or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 5 years of proven success in a supervisory role in the health and fitness industry, or related field.
    • Minimum 3 years of P&L responsibilities over a budget of at least $300,000.
    • Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.Certifications and Licenses:
      • Required current professional certifications: CPR/ AED, First Aid, PT Certification (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NFPT, NSCA, NCSF)
      • OSHA Training for hazardous materials within 90 days of hire
