Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a public health nursing position and is responsible for
providing oversight of the School Health Programs with the Florida
Department of Health in Hendry County and is headquartered in
Clewiston. This position serves as the School Health Coordinator
for Hendry County and the school health liaison providing oversight
and responsibility for the Comprehensive, Basic, and Full-Service
School Nursing services within the Hendry County Public School
System. The incumbent is expected to provide high quality customer
service and clinical excellence and be able to independently
perform assigned duties in multiple public health program areas.
This position reports directly to the Senior Registered Nurse
Supervisor in the School Health Program.
Provides professional oversight for school district Licensed
Practical Nurses and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel; Responsible
for providing instruction and training programs of school
personnel, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, and assists in
orientation programs. Responsible for the oversight of the Basic
School Health program which provides school health services as
required by s. 381.0056, Florida Statutes (F.S.) and Rules
64F-6.007, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.). Provides
consultative school health services; Provides assessment of health
needs of students through screening procedures, analysis of
records, and assessment of students; encourages immunization and
health compliance of all students by conducting record reviews;
Assists school staff in meeting the requirements according to
Florida School Health Act; gathers records and reports statistical
data relating to health concerns and nursing services such as
communicable diseases or clusters; provides and/or assists with
classroom health education programs as invited or arranged;
provides consultation and educational health information regarding
health issues.
Responsible for the oversight of Full-Service School services with
the school district serving a student population that has a high
risk of needing medical and social services. Coordination/provision
of prevention, treatment and support services to students and
families. Coordination with interagency providers to plan,
organize, and coordinate goals to serve high risk students.
Coordination/provision of specialized services in schools that
integrate education, medical, social and/or human services to meet
the needs of the high-risk student population and their families.
Initiates nursing care plans on all students identified with a
chronic disease or disorder.
Provides quality improvement for school-based health room services
in areas such as: documentation, emergency procedures; chronic
disease management; health education in the health room and
classroom; illness and injury; participates in quality improvement
and assurance activities within the DOH.
Participates in the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
quarterly. Attends all required or assigned staff meetings,
in-services, or training programs.
Works in general clinic, as needed. Performs other duties as
assigned. Performs related work as required, including preparedness
activities.
Prepares biweekly leave and attendance records and daily employee
activity records (EARS)

Qualifications:
Minimum:
* Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Florida in
accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing
in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27
* Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond
normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency
duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or
Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including,
but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster
or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
