Job Description:

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant will help a Medical Practice in the diagnostic testing, examination, education, and treatment of patients. Duties/Responsibilities: -- Interviews patients to complete documents, case histories, and forms such as intake and insurance forms. Compiles and records medical charts, reports, and correspondence using a computer and various software programs. Transmits correspondence and medical records by mail, email, or fax. -- Escorts patients to examining rooms take detailed medical histories and determine the reason for the visit. -- Presents a patient history summary and alerts to the doctor. Annotates patient charts with exam and treatment results. -- Evaluates records and prepares reports on such topics as the number of denied claims or documentation or coding issues for review by management and/or professional evaluation committees. -- Calls in critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to established criteria. Maintains the abnormal results log according to protocol. Prepares test reports legibly. Initials and dates work performed. Reviews reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications. -- Coding and filling out insurance forms -- Schedules and confirms patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and medical consultations. -- Maintains medical records, technical library, and correspondence files. -- Maintains knowledge of ICD-9 diagnostic coding and CPT procedures codes and third-party reimbursement billing requirements. Maintains knowledge of operation and maintenance of clinical equipment, drugs, and supplies. -- Assists patients with insurance papers and billing questions. -- Receives and routes messages and documents such as laboratory results to appropriate staff. -- Observes laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and safety practices. -- Explaining treatment procedures to patients -- Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs. Performs specimen collection and processing duties according to policies established in the medical specialty area Education, Experience, Skills: -- High school diploma (or GED) or Greater (Required) -- Minimum 1-year prior medical assistant experience -- Medical Assistant Certification (Strongly Preferred) -- Ability to travel between locations if necessary and as applies to a specific provider. -- Bilingual a + (not required) -- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. -- Prolonged periods of periods of standing and bending. -- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Job Requirements:* Take patients histories and vital signs* Obtaining patient history and vital signs* Record vital signs in the patient's medical record* Add medical history into patient medical files* Serve as a patient advocate* Measure vital signs and records information on patient charts* Prepare patients for medical examinations* Assist rooming patients and taking vitals
